
Jishou is home to 67 national and provincial-level intangible cultural heritage projects, 26 national and provincial-level ethnic minority characteristic villages and 13 traditional Chinese villages.
It has been protecting and developing a number of cultural heritages such as Qianzhou Ancient Town, Qianzhou Confucian Temple and Zhonghuang Ancient Village.
Every year, folk festivals such as the Drum Culture Festival, Qianzhou Spring Festival and Qingming Song Festival are held.

In recent years, the city government has worked to develop culture and tourism and delve into cultural characteristics.
In the first eleven months of this year, the city received 19.15 million tourists and achieved a tourism revenue of 18.8 billion yuan, an increase of 6.4% and 6% year on year respectively.
